9/10/2018- Last week we finished reading the novel Nothing But the Truth by Avi. The students seemed to enjoy reading it. This week we are going to work on some assignments that help me assess how well the students understood the novel.

Day Monday, Sept. 10 Tuesday, Sept. 11 Wednesday, Sept. 12 Thursday. Sept. 13 Friday, Sept. 14
Assignment

The students have five questions on the book that they must answer today. Most of the questions are up to personal interpretation; however, each answer must be supported by information from the text.

Today we are going to discuss characterization and how our actions and words help shape who we are. It is true for the characters we read, but it is also true for us.

9/3/2018- Last week we began out first class novel Nothing But the Truth by Avi. This book is realistic fiction. Very realisitic fiction. It is aout the conflict between a teacher and a student. The student is mad about not being eligible for sports and the conflict goes viral, only things aren't as they seem. The true story does not get out, but only a fraction of the truth. The book was written in 1997, and so it was long before social media; however, I cannot help but see the parallels between this story and so many stories that go viral on social media. The students seem to be enjoying the format of the book as well. It is writen in scripted dialogue, diary entries, letters and news articles.

Last week in Reading class we read the short story "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl. The students then answered the questions in the textbook and then compared and contrasted the film version with the written text.

This week:

Day Monday, August 27 Tuesday, August 28 Wednesday, August 29 Thursday, August 30 Friday, August 31
Assignment

The students will begin reading Avi's book Nothing but the Truth.

I love this book because it is very relatable. This is a book about a conflict about a teacher and a student. It is also about how the news media can take a story and run with it without fully fact checking the story. This is a very realistic book that connects easily to many real news stories.
